A few weeks ago t.v. talk show hosts and pundits and bloggers were spending time talking about the most influential or interesting people of 2011. I put some thought into it and here are the folks that caught my interest living and dead last year.
- Tim Tebow – this life has really caught me. He is the real thing far beyond athletes in actions cliches of the athletic Christian. I think we will hear more of him in 2012.
- Seth Godin….biz guru. His books really got me thinking down a different channel this year.
- Mumford and sons- the unique sounding top selling group from England. The group is actually led by a major leader in the Vineyard movement.
- Jimmy Falon….Jimmy is going to be and is a prime mover in our culture. He is the new SNL.
- Newt Gingrich….watch Newt something is ticking there whether you like him or not.
- Swtichfoot… Jon Foreman….. awesome records – awesome life.
- Guy Kawasaki… everyone one of his books should be read by any leader. I read most of them this last year.
- James Thurber…comedic writer of the depression years. I rediscovered him last year.
- Chris Hitchen…fanatical atheist who died last year. Awesome writer. But a declared enemy of religion. I found his writing superb and actually move of his criticisms were accurate of the church.
- Steve Jobs…and obvious one we will all miss.
- Donald Trump…. bad t.v. show…bad hair…big ego but always around.
- Erwin McManus…in my opinion the best Christian writer out there.
- Oprah — her starting her own t.v. network is yet to be the culture shaper it will be.
- Rob Bell…. former mega church pastor who released a book that got everyone talking about hell again.
- Charles Wesley…the first Christian rock star…. I read his bio this last year and started meditating on his hymns. One of the most fascinating people in church history.
- Last – Frederick Beuchner…. I have re-read his entire library and catalog this last year and am a better person for having done it.
