I have to admit I am not fond of music without words. Being a lyrical writer it makes sense. I had a freind who was a famous jazz composer. He wrote songs that had no words and still gave them names. I never got it. I suppose he could have just numbered his songs. Song number one being a slow one and number two being fast.
Then it struck me one day that not all communication is verbal. I began to see how it would be a great artistic task to name songs based on how the sounds effected you.
I have also found that actions and non-verbal communication of what it is to be a Christ follower is just as valuable as speaking. I still prefer talking about Christ to agonizing over whether my smile is attracting someone to Christ or not.
Today I have given myself the assignment of writing lyrics to one original chorus. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
