In the book Change Anything Kelly Patterson in a section called – Do What You Can’t outlines three key processes to being motivated to change:

  1. Start with a Skill Scan… What do you need to possess as a skill you don’t have now? What will it take to stop doing the wrong thing? And what will it take to start doing the right thing?
  1. Employ deliberate practice….Break down the skill sets you will need see yourself doing them. Practice them in your mind and in action before the pressure comes on.
  1. Learn the will skill….. What is your most tempting skill? How can you avoid the circumstance be avoided all together? Who will help you through your toughest moments?

To be Christian means to be a person in the process of change. Romans 12:1-2 gives us a clue to what it means to be in process and seeing needed change. It begins with our thinking.
