One of my favorite recording artists, Bruce Cockburn, wrote “the trouble with normal is it always gets worse.”
We often begin to accept what we live in called “the world” as normal. Actually customary is a better word. Our world is abnormal. We live with dysfunction all around us. Normal does get worse.
As Christian we must contend for what is supra-normal. We live for what is beyond normal because “it is always getting better.”
We accept it that the Chineese point missals at us and we at them. That drunken fathers beat their children. That people commit suicide. That there are women sold into slavery all over the world.
It all becomes normal and just the way it is.
The Christian rejects normal and goes for changing the world and going for wholeness rather than holeness.
We live in a abnormal world remember. God’s normal is very different from outs.
