One of the very paralyzing aspects of churches that don’t grow is the leadership usually has too narrow a range of networking. Even pastors can have a limited few people they connect with. Of course once a church gets about about 75 people very few pastors can know everyone.
Delegated leaders have to be people who reach out to a larger network constantly. Pastor’s also must include the very new to their network. It is said that most people can intimately know around 12 people depending upon social skills of the leader. Most people can know at a surface level 40 people. And we remember about 200 faces.
This is why leaders must be those who include the new along with the pastor. Being a networker is an essential aspect of being a lay leader in a church. The pastor should be allowed to change and broaden her range of network.
This means sometimes “delayering” or releasing leaders who have been mentored well to develop their own network with less contact with the pastor.
