I did a little study this morning on “waiting” this morning. Waiting means more than waiting in some of the most poignant passages. It means a effortful engagement with God that brings everything else to a stop.
Ps. 62:5….says we are to wait. The word used for “waiting” here is “daman.” It has several nuances to it. It means to be quiet, or to be astonished. Wanting in this case means waiting and quieting yourself until you see and grasp how astonishing God is. Our astonishing God does astonishing things.
Ps. 40:31 is the most famous verse about waiting. Remember, “those who wait upon the Lord will mount upon wings of eagles.” In this passage the word for wait is “qavah.” In this setting this word has an interesting nuance. In its mix of meanings is the idea of “binding together.” In other words waiting here means staying put with God until you are united with him and bound together. This gives you the power for mount above your circumstances.
I am waiting this morning. I am waiting for God. I am astonished at his power and person. I am finding my heart with him. And I expect great outcomes.
