Different Blues

I have heard that people don’t see exactly the same color of blue. Depending upon your programming everyone sees a little different shade of blue. So what really is blue? What if blue is a wide range of blueish tones?

I am a little color blind. But not a lot. But wonder if what I see isn’t actually the true color. And someone who sees colors clearly may not be right.

But still blue is blue.

Just because our experience causes us to see a different tone of blue does that mean there isn’t a true blue that is our reference point?

My experience has shaped my view of most everything in life. And not the least of which is truth. Truth is truth. I may have experienced truth in a different way but just as there is a true blue that all shades spin off of truth is absolute.

Basically my experience isn’t trustworthy. I was explaining this to Lori the other day on a couple of issues. Basically we can have opinions. We can actually have opinions that the majority holds and they can still be wrong. In fact there is a strong possibility that they are for certain unreliable.

Relativism is a big obstacle to the Gospel in our time. It is the believe that there is no absolute truth. It holds that our individual experience is the final reference to truth. My opinion is truth because its mine.

I have a true problem with depth perception. The other night at our Life Group I was backing the car out and nearly hit one of our fellow member’s car. To me it looked as though I had plenty of room. Some folks shouted and I stopped. Lori knows I often park three feet from the end of a parking spot. I am sure some of the Life Group folks thought Lori was putting me down and being a little aggressive when she got out and took the wheel for me. But she knows when night comes I have problems backing up.

I need new glasses. But just haven’t made the time to go through the check up.

I think we all have spiritual depth perception issues. What we see is in fact not just wrong sometimes but dangerous. And we need the absolute authority of the scriptures to make it through life.

So enjoy your opinions but don’t trust them completely you might crash.
