The Gift of Confusion
One of my repeated stopping points is chapter eleven of the Gospel of John. If you don’t remember, it’s the account of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. It is easily noted that Jesus hears of Lazarus’ illness and anticipated his death and yet remains another two days before heading to Bethany to pray for Lazarus.
This was a confusing time for Mary and Martha. And a very disappointing time. It appeared to them Jesus clearly wasn’t making them a priority. You can sense their dismay that Jesus was taking so long on his arrival.
Confusion is a gift that keeps us seeking. Disappointment keeps our desires alive. They both are a good thing.
I think, as one becomes a leader the more confusing things are as you develop. That is, if you’re growing. You just learn to live with the confusion a bit better. I am pretty confused about a few things right now. And it is turning me into a renewed seeker. It’s a good thing.
John 11 —gives us four aspects of Jesus life toward us when in a stage of confusion.
1. He is coming
2. He cares.
3. He has heard.
4. He has unlimited solutions.
