Baseball Uniforms

bbuniformHave you ever-noticed how comfortable baseball uniforms look? It is amazing that grown men get to wear those things to work every day. I wonder how much better we would all feel if we could where uniforms like that. Our jobs could give each of us a number. Some appropriate shoes and a shirt with our company’s name on the back. I, for one, would enjoy it.

We all wear uniforms though. I concluded this awhile back. I took a tie out of my uniform a few years ago. In fact, I have not owned a tie in about fifteen years. If I officiate a funeral or wedding I just borrow one. My son took all of my old ones and his buddies distributed them around. They wear them with t-shirts a various other clothing.

I also like to not tuck my shirt in. I was glad when it became a somewhat acceptable way to wear your shirt. I just can’t stand to be all tucked in. No one has complained so far. It’s just my uniform and everyone accepts it that way.

Women have much more complicated uniforms. I couldn’t handle it myself. They have so many things they have to wear. And I have noticed that they assess one another. Men don’t usually. We might notice a friend is going bald or something but even then we feel like, “Hey that’s your problem.”

I feel sorry for my friends that have to wear suits. Some of my younger friends have uniforms too. Everyone tries to dress in accordance with who they feel they are. I like to dress like a bum around the house. But I am not allowed by the local overseer of our home to leave the house in my “at home” uniform. So you can have more than one uniform.

Again back to the baseball uniforms. I want one. The cap would be good too. I could have my name on the back. And those cotton suits look so comfortable. I think we’d all get along a lot better with uniforms on. We could number our teams according to position. A friend once told me if all board members were forced to learn guitar and play a blues jam before every meeting we’d have more fun and get more done. I think the same would work if we all had the same uniform.

I have felt for a long time that schools should have uniforms. Kids who come from poorer homes wouldn’t be at a disadvantage with kids from wealthier homes. And I think the learning environment would improve. I am surprised this hasn’t been done more. I used to be intrigued as a kid with the kids from Catholic school. They knew where they belonged.

That is really one thing all our uniforms do for us. They remind us where we belong.

Paul told us all Christians have a uniform. We are to clothe ourselves in Christ. We shouldn’t be able to be told apart at this level. Kindness is our team color. Joy is our team suit. Our cap is a holy thought life.
