Accountability isn’t’ something we easily understand. It sounds like policing to me sometimes. And most of the time it’s nearly impossible to have true accountability. Many of my friends are in “accountability groups.” They nearly never share the real guts of the issues they are facing. But at least there is a little bit of honesty.
Accountability for the most part has to be relational. And it has to be business-like. I think everyone should be accountable to statistics. I have trouble with church leaders that think it’s unspiritual to measure numbers or intangible growth points. We all hate to be that accountable. Actually I enjoy it. I like to be very honest about what this kind of progress says about me.
A lot of leaders who say, “numbers aren’t important” are really just not wanting to give an account for their efforts. I think a lot of church stylings today are made by people fearful they may not hit a goal so they set about making philosophies that protect them from their fears.
But that’s ok. As long as you are accountable for something.
I received an email today that asked me if I would vote yes – no or not sure as to whether there should be drug testing in order to receive welfare aid. I think so. Getting help is a privilege not a right. And enabling addiction isn’t something our government ought to be about.
I know a young women who failed a drug test at work. The employers gave her another change to clean up her act. So she went and bought some clean urine to keep on her person should she be tested again. She just smokes pot she says. But in my book pot is the most dangerous drug of them all. My point is she spends more energy on avoiding detection than she spends on doing a great job. It would be easier to get a high from a higher paycheck.
A person illegally in our country rear ended my daughter’s car. It ruined her car. The driver who hit her didn’t have insurance either. So my daughter ended up paying a higher insurance premium because her insurance had to pay for the damage. And the other driver didn’t even get a ticket. She had already had two other wrecks. The police said it was up to our daughter to work it out, there was nothing they could do. So I see if you are illegal and uninsured your are not accountable. I don’t get it.
