Amazement

Amazement is a reaction to life I enjoy. Things often just amaze me.  I have been thinking about things that have amazed me that I’d like to master. 

  • A friend of my can go to the wrong reference in the Bible and still act like it was part of his message.   I can’t. 
  • My mother used to pick up the phone in the middle of yelling at her kids and sound very peaceful and in control.  I never mastered the trick. 
  • My wife can remember every sentence I spoke through our engagement and first year of marriage.  I can’t remember a thing,  I just nod in agreement.
  • I have a friend who can swear in such away you don’t notice.  I stay away from that stuff. 
  • I am amazed at how many school teacher friends have lots of money.  It has something to do with discipline,  planning and hard work. 
  • I am amazed at how many books I have to read and soon.  I like owning them better than reading them.  I just enjoy looking at them mostly.
  • I am stunned by how stupid many people can be.  If I weren’t a "people" my assessment could be trusted. 
  • I am amazed at how several of my friends live on ice cream and burgers and look like refugees.  I just walk past an ice cream stand and gain five pounds.
  • I am amazed by people like Bill Gates when they are both brilliant and philanthropic.  We need more of them.
  • I am amazed by how much people can really change.  It makes me believe. 
  • I  am amazed by the amount of energy positive thinking gives me.  I need to make a habit of it. 
  • I am amazed that every plane I get on gets off of the ground.  So far.
  • I am amazed at how hard it is to tell the difference between a need and want.  I am working on that.
  • I am amazed how friends can last decades even when rarely seen in person.  I have learned to prize friendships as some of the greatest things in life. 
  • I am amazed by what great great-grandparents my parents are.  Good thing I had my kids too young. 
  • I am amazed with people who can actually run Quickbooks.  I am a moron when it comes to accounting.  And I think it’s better left to others.
  • I am amazed with some of the opportunities God has given me. I like to forget the ones I missed. 
  • I am amazed by people who exercise a lot.  I like a good prayerful walk.
  • I am amazed by how money works.  I’d like more to practice with.
  • I am amazed by answered prayer.  This may not be a good thing.
  • I am amazed by the power of a big thought. But sometimes lowering my expectations helps too.
  • I have a friend who really looked old the last time I saw him. I seem to stay the same to me. 
  • I was amazed by how much stuff was under my car seat when I cleaned it. It’s amazing what your sitting on in life and don’t know it. 
  • I am amazed by how great a well-tuned guitar can sound. There aren’t a lot of guitar players that share my joy.
  • It amazes me how many times I can see a good movie.  It’s like life, you miss a lot the first and second time.
