Age PowerSomeone asked me the other day what I though about boomer retirement. I told them I didn’t think there would be as much of that as most hoped. Only about one third of boomers are financially ready to retire. And a significant portion of the generation isn’t going to want to retire. The generation could awake from the mid-life life building to want to concentrate on what they are leaving behind. Their immense influence will likely follow them into their 80’s and maybe 90’s. Finishing well could be a theme that drives a renewal of boomer spirituality.

Ken Dychtwald in his insightful book about boomers “Age Power” closes with two worthy quotes. (p. 235 – 36). He concludes his prediction about baby boomers with these words.

“In youth, boomers were self-indulgent in their priorities. In their late teens and twenties many shared an idealistic commitment to society. During the past several decades of career building and childrearing, many of their early ideals have been submerged. As boomers shed the skin of youth, however, they could be migrating into the most powerful years of their lives.”

He makes this optimistic prediction:

”If this generation evolves into a deepened appreciation of the effect it has on others and can learn to exemplify a new kind of wise, mature leadership, when the boomers’ time on earth is over, perhaps they will be remembered not just as the largest generation in history but the finest.”
