Addressing depression

Depression is a serious issue that is so easily resolved in our day. I speak sometimes with the National Association of Mental Illness. I am usually speaking on how churches can link up with mental health professionals and help people get spiritual and medical help when they are sufferers of depression.

It is my educated opinion that many of the leadership failings including marital break-ups and abuse in the home are actually symptoms of depression unchecked. Even with all the reports out on the topic, helpers and friends even still aren’t as helpful as they could be.

Here are some of the symptoms you can watch for:

1. insomnia
2. Irritability
3. Loss of libido
4. Paranoia
5. Short term memory loss
6. Inability to focus
7. Pain that no cause can be found for
8. Relational conflict
9. Agitation
10. Loss of enthusiasm for life
11. Drop in doing hobbies and interests
12. Isolation
13. Poor judgment
14. Risk taking
15. Parents who were alcoholic
16. Parents who suffered from depressioin
