These are guides I share with church builders. As a leader, I take my own advice to heart and review this outline often. You can likely improve on this scorecard or add one or two of your own.  We do need to make certain we are assessing our role as leaders and communicators and teach our listeners the basics of Christian life.

1. How to prayer in at least 20 different ways:  Few people will attend prayer meetings.  But prayer is the foundation of all we are as a community of faith.  I like to take time in each service to teach one new aspect, way, style of praying. It can take no more than 5 minutes a week to teach a new skill.

2. The Bible just as the Bible:  Too often the Bible is presented as the place we get our ideas from. People should know that the Bible stands alone. The Bible should study us every week and shape our ideas, not just a place we go to support our own ideas.

3. Monday to Monday Focus of Christian Life:  Leaders should, in a certain sense, devalue the importance of Sunday morning in favor of Monday-to-Monday Christian living in the trenches as the more important part of the week.

 4. Generosity:  All you have to do is have a traveling ministry and you find out quickly that liberal generous churches always seem to be the healthier and faster growing churches. But churches need to be taught generosity rather than to fear running out of money.

More coming…
